It’s worth mentioning that pregnancy is an incredible and wonderful journey, however, it often begins with symptoms that vary from one woman to another.

In this article we will explore the most common signs and symptoms that may indicate pregnancy. Follow along and ask your questions!

When do pregnancy symptoms usually appear?

As mentioned previously, pregnancy symptoms can vary from one woman to another, therefore, not all pregnant women experience the same symptoms or with the same intensity. Some even don’t feel anything during the entire journey. I was so lucky with my first pregnancy!

But generally, symptoms usually appear from the 5th or 6th week of pregnancy.

Delayed menstrual cycle

Without a shadow of a doubt, a missed period is the first symptom that turns on our “alarms” and makes us wonder how I can know if I’m pregnant. During pregnancy, a woman stops having a menstrual cycle for 40 weeks, which allows the fetus to develop properly in the uterus.

This occurs due to the increase in the production of the hCG hormone (pregnancy hormone), which prevents the ovaries from releasing mature eggs. It is important to note that some women or irregular menstrual periods, thus making cycle delay less reliable as an indicator of pregnancy.

Cramping and abdominal bloating

Cramps during pregnancy are quite common, especially in the first 3 months. Its cause is due to the growth of the uterus, which can cause stretching of the ligaments that support it. Likewise, they can also be caused by uterine contractions, which is quite normal during the pregnancy journey.

Remembering that cramps are generally mild and should not cause concern.

However, if you feel that they are stronger or are accompanied by other symptoms, it is important to consult a doctor.

In the case of abdominal swelling, it usually appears between the first seven days and two weeks of pregnancy. This is mainly due to increased blood flow and adaptation to the growth of the uterus.

Sensitive breasts

Female breasts are normally a very sensitive part of the body. Therefore, in the first weeks of pregnancy, the breasts tend to become even more sensitive, due to the action of hormones that stimulate the mammary glands.

This is all part of the process of preparing for breastfeeding. In some cases, the sensitivity can be so intense that it causes pain. This change in color is due to the increase in the level of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color.

During pregnancy, levels of hormones such as progesterone and estrogen increase, eventually stimulating the production of melanin. Normally this change in color begins in the first three months of pregnancy, and can last until the end of the breastfeeding period. In some cases, the original color may return after birth.

Salivation

I’ll tell you right away that this is one of the most uncomfortable symptoms during pregnancy. It is known as sialorrhea and is quite common, but there is not much talk about it.

It usually occurs in around 25% of women, generally in the first trimester of pregnancy. The good news is that it doesn’t usually last the entire pregnancy! The cause of this happening is still not completely known, but experts believe it occurs due to a combination of factors, such as increased hormone levels, nausea and vomiting, and changes in taste.

Nausea

Just like the delay in the menstrual cycle, the famous nausea, especially morning sickness, makes us wonder how I can know if I’m pregnant, as it is a very common symptom, quite unpleasant by the way.

Nausea during pregnancy is also known as morning nausea, and can also occur at any time of the day, and usually affects more than 70% of women. They can range from mild to intense. They usually begin between the 5th and 8th week of pregnancy and can last until the end of the first trimester. The main causes may be:

  • Hormones;
  • Sensitivity to odors;
  • Slower stomach;
  • Aversion to certain foods.

Remembering that, if the nausea becomes intense enough to cause significant weight loss or dehydration, it is necessary to consult a doctor. In more serious cases, medical treatment may be necessary to achieve relief.

Increased urinary frequency

Normally pregnant women experience the need to urinate more frequently than usual. This symptom occurs mainly due to increased blood volume, pressure from the uterus and hormones.

It usually starts in the first few weeks of pregnancy and can persist throughout the journey. In some cases, women may notice an increase in the first few months, which is when the uterus is expanding most quickly.

Conclusion

Anxiety and questions about how do I know if I’m pregnant are common, especially when you’re going through changes in your body and health.

Remember that pregnancy is an incredible journey, but also full of challenges and doubts.It is important to remember that if you suspect you are pregnant based on these symptoms, confirmation of pregnancy should be done using a pregnancy test.

Furthermore, it is essential to seek appropriate medical care to ensure a healthy pregnancy for you and your baby.
